Mulled Apple Cider

Ingredients
1 Gallon Apple Cider
2 Oranges, sliced
4 1” slices of ginger
4 Cinnamon sticks
20 Cloves
Recipe Summary
Prepare ingredients by: slicing oranges, peeling ginger and slicing, adding cloves to a spice sack (or tea diffuser)
Add apple cider and all ingredients to a crockpot and heat
Serve hot

Add the following to a crockpot: 1 gallon of apple cider, 1” orange slices, ginger slices, cloves, and cinnamon sticks
Leave to heat on low for 3 hours or high for 1.5 hours.
Serve hot and with additional slices of orange if desired.
Why the Recipe Works
Adding spices like cloves and cinnamon compliment the sweetness of the apple cider and bring out fall smells and flavors. Adding ginger and orange slices help cut the sweetness of the apple cider and add a little bit of acidity and spice to the drink, which makes it easier to go back for multiple servings.
Heating the mulled cider at wow heat for will allow the aromatics to impart more flavor, but if in a time crunch, cooking on high is a good alternative with comparable results.
